This is a "man vs. nature" movie, except that the protagonist is a woman. These kinds of movies are often quite interesting and compelling, as they often examine what it takes for a person to dig into their souls to summon the strength and the courage to endure when everything seems stacked against them.

Naomi Watts is the perfect actress to portray real-life hiker and rescue climber Pam Bales. She doesn't have a lot of Oscar-worthy dialog, but she conveys so much in the way she carries herself and expresses things like frustration and relief in non-conversational ways.

The epilogue scene is unnecessary and seems like it was tacked on to make the story more palatable to people that want to have everything explained. Even with that slight misstep, this is a movie worth watching.
