"Kandahar" is a powerful motion picture directed by Mohsen Makhmalbaf, this Iranian film takes a look at Afghanistan in the last days of the 20th Century when the country is under Tailban rule. The film tells the tale of a woman name Nafas who must travel the country to Kandahar to come to the aid of her sister, who was left depressed and injured after a land mine accident. For survival she must wear the bunka, a dress which covers the whole body of a woman. Though her eyes she experienced what the woman of Afghanistan had to go though. Makhmalbaf's direction reminded me of the late Stanley Kurbrick. The images in this film are powerful, shocking, brilliant. This film takes us though another country, a totally different country full of lost souls who tried to find redemption in themselves. "Kandahar" is must-see cinema.
