All the elements of a very good movie are included here. You have a main protagonist with an arc to travel, interesting and/or likable characters surrounding him, and the motivating factor to take him along on his journey. That just happens to be a sea monster named Godzilla.

There have been many Godzilla movies made over the years, including several Hollywood blockbusters in recent years. While they have become increasingly cartoonish, this movie shows how to make an effective monster movie. It’s always less about the CGI when it comes to the effectiveness of such movies, and when filmmakers lose sight of that, you get the likes of ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ and no one wants more of that.

The only thing that might turn off some viewers is that is Japanese language with subtitles. But this is a Godzilla movie based in Japan, so do you really want something different? I had no issue reading subtitles, and did not choose to see what it would be like to have the English dubbed soundtrack.

This is a very good movie that just happens to be a monster movie. That makes it something that more than only the typical monster movie fan can enjoy.
