Excellent movie. Nicole Kidman is one of my favorite actresses, and while I'm not that into Sean Penn, I was impressed by them both in this film.

Despite the big names, the movie doesn't get ahead of itself- the character development is impressive and the plot is original. Think African turmoil meets UN peace with Kidman as a catalyst of sorts.

There are definitely moments of suspense in the movie- but I wouldn't classify it as scary at all or even a thriller.

It offers an "inside look" into the world of the UN, interpretors, and political relations. It's highly entertaining, suspenseful and even funny at times, despite Penn's partner's lame attempts at humor. I would even spend the movie to see it again.

Disclaimer: I dislike Nicole Kidman. It was an ok film. Had there been less Nicole Kidman in it, it probably would have been better....or maybe if she had just talked less.

Director Sydney Pollack has directed a first class thriller. A "Dial M for Murder" inside the United Nations. Nicole Kidman is fine as an interpreter who head a phone call talking about planning a murder of an African president. Sean Penn did a good job as well. This is not Nicole Kidman's best performance, but she gave an very appealing performance. In other words, she is very beautiful in her role. Kidman is hot in "The Intepreter."

Compelling story. This film has a nice mix of drama, intrigue, and suspense.
