Not For the Weak (-Stomached, that is) The opening scene sets the mood and pattern for the next 118 minutes of this morbid thriller; a couple leaves the airport and gets into a taxi, never to be seen again. Paired with the serial killers mayhem is the story of a quadriplegic homicide detective and a rookie cop trying to catch him before he strikes again. The plot is suspense-filled with few breaks for the audience to catch their breath. The script is well written, keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats. I was impressed by the actors performances, especially those of Denzel Washington (Lincoln Rhymes) and Angelina Jolie (Amelia Donaghy). They interacted well together on-screen, each with a solid performance making for a believable story. Queen Latifa appears as Rhymes personal medical assistant in a surprisingly impressive performance as well. The many graphic scenes portraying horrid death seemed unnecessary to me as a viewer. The story and emotions could have survived without such excessive gore. Though there were many seemingly unnecessary scenes, the movie was very interesting and worth a trip to the theaters, however those with weak stomachs should be advised to avoid. Jan 25, 2000
Scary, creepy, gross, edge of your seat, gripping, spine tingling all describe this horrific thriller. Anjelina Jolie was so great I could hardly believe it, she made you feel what she was feeling in those dark creepy tunnels, she just captures you, you think your there. And Denzel Washington was awesome as the parelized detective. "The Bone Collector" is about a detective who get's parrelized and shortly after a killer strikes New York. He picks the people up in a cab and drives them to the middle of nowhere in New York, then drags them down into tunnels to represent old torture chambers, where he then tortures them to death after he cuts a bone out of them. He places a set of clues at every site of the killings. Anjelina Jolie plays a rookie cop who is on the case with Denzel Washigton. Denzel Washington walks her through the sites with a micro phone. Don't miss this great thriller! I would rate this ***1/2 stars out of **** Jan 25, 2000
A taut, tense, edge of your seat murder mystery that will have you guessing the identity of the killer right up until the moment you find it out. Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington are fabulous in their parts of rookie cop and experienced, but quadraplegic, detective and Queen Latifa was excellent as well, in her strong portrayal of the detective's nurse. First of all....I loved it. Denzel Washington plays a severly disabled former New York police detective who is called upon to help solve a rash of recent murders. With the help of Angelina Jolie, a foot patrol officer, he is able to track the killer's next moves. This film is extremely intense and some of the scenes extremely gorry. I found myself jumping numerous times and kept on the edge of my seat for the rest. Bottom line...no wonder this is rated R, I could just imagine some kids wanting to collect things other than baseball cards or stamps. Jan 25, 2000
I thought the movie was good and worth seeing, but slightly disgusting at times. If you have a weak stomach, stay away! The movie kept you on edge til the end. However, the ending left a little to be desired in my opinion. Jan 25, 2000
Don't bother! This movie has been compared to "Seven" and it doesn't come close. While there are a few horrific scenes, which are so shadowy you can hardly make them out, you can't help but wonder why this rookie cop is walking through the crime scenes alone. Morgan Freeman had Brad Pitt as a sidekick (in "Seven"), but Angelina Jolie is permitted to investigate every crime without even a backup..because, oh no, God forbid the cops wreck the evidence! Give me a break. This is a made-for-tv movie without the commercials that tends to focus too often on Angelina's full collagen-injected lips. It isn't believeble and isn't credible. It starts out good, but takes a nose dive for the rest of the ride. Actually, the previews on tv are more frightening than the whole film. The other reviewers of Bone Collector must be young people, unfamiliar with true horror, and easily entertained. Wanna see a really frightening movie? See "Stir of Echoes!" Nov 18, 2003
Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie make a great team in \"the Bone Collector.\" a thriler about a cab driver who kidnaps passengers and murders them. Washington\'s character is comfined to bed while Jolie do all his work, in order to capture the killer. the film could\'ve been a pilot for a weekly crime-drama televsion series, but it\'s not. The film\'s better than that. I like the direction of the movie. \"The Bone Collector\" will have on the edge of your seat.
