Heres the setup: An Army Major gone evil has stolen a heat sensitive biological weapon which will detonate if the temperature gets above 50 degrees. Its intercepted by Skeet Ulrich and an ice cream truck driver played by Cuba Gooding Jr. I have made none of this up. It sounds funny as a setup for a Zucker Brothers spoof of Speed. But Chill Factor is completely serious about all this. The result is one of 1999s worst movies. Cuba Gooding Jr. overacts more than in his Pepsi One commercials, but I cant place all the blame on him. The average seven-year old could write a more intelligent and believable script. A speedboat careens down a hill through a forest like a sled, managing to miss every tree in its path. Characters (particularly Colin Firth as the villain) are silly cardboard stereotypes. The dialogue is worse than the worst Marvel comic youve ever read. The unfunny Elvis bashing is unforgivable. In short, Chill Factor takes all the worst Hollywood cliches and regurgitates them in random order. Sigh. Well, at least it was better than Speed 2. 10-point scale rating: 1 Jan 25, 2000
It was a real romp! Don't go to this movie looking for "Hamlet", but it was fun, and the action sequences were good, it was just a light summer (fall) fun movie, if you don't try to take it to seriously, you'll be very amused. The acting, while not oscar calliber was pretty good, and the running dialog between the two guys in the truck was at times LOL funny! I especially like the Elvis jokes. (Every one takes him to seriously anyway.) if you go in expecting "Tom Clancy meets Willam Shakspear" you'll be disappointed, but it you just want some fun, I would recomend it over such mindless junk as "Big Daddy" or for that matter anything with Adam Sandler in it. I would rate this move 3 1/2 out of 5 May 20, 2003
Cuba Goulding Jr. and Skeet Ulrich teams up for \"Chill Factor\" a action movie about two people who must keep a bomb below feezing or else it would go off. I\'m not saying that it\'s the best action movie of all because there are other action movies that are better. But there is enough to give it a mild approval. \"Chill Factor\" is good, but it could be better. Looking for more opinions?Check out our Featured Movie Reviews for Chill Factor. |
