This is a really bad spoof. First of all, why 'The Godfather'? Why not spoof a more recent slew of crime films such as 'Goodfellas', 'The Usual Suspects', 'Get Shorty', and the granddaddy of 'em all, 'Pulp Fiction'? No, instead we get 1 1/2 hours of bad comedy. Spoofs just aren't the same. The last good one was Hot Shots. This movie just plain sucks.

This movie is a spoof of the mafia genre of films. As is typical, this movie has rapid-fire jokes and sight gags. I like this type of film. I wouldn't say that the humor is original but originality is not the point of movies like this. In short, if you don't like movies in the style of "Top Secret" or "Airplane" don't see this film.

If you're looking for a great 1-2 punch of horrible comedy and bad acting, try MAFIA! and BASEKETBALL. These two films are sure to wind up together as a double feature at your local cineplex anyway, so there's no point in seeing them individually. Actually, there's no point to seeing them anyway. However, if you live in a part of the country that is suffering from a massive heat wave, like Texas, and are totally bored, I guess you might as well go see either of these movies. Of course, you'll surely enjoy the air conditioned theatre more than the movie itself, but sometimes summer break boredom can drive a person to such lengths.

RATING: (For both movies) *1/2 out of (*****)

It takes a lot to make me laugh at a movie, but I smiled through most of this movie. More than anything, this is a fun movie to watch, You have to be a 'movie buff' to enjoy Mafia, because it has many references to other movies, many of which are subtle and would not even be noticed unless you've seen a lot of movies. I thought it was fun to watch because you never knew what would come up next. You have to pay close attention to every detail to catch everything. Instead of watching the action going on in the foreground, pay attention to the things in the background - signs, other people, the little things. I want to see this again because I'm sure there are a lot of things I missed the first time around. I hated Naked Gun, so I was skeptical about Mafia, but I really had fun watching it.

'Mafia!' was a good movie, but not great. The best part was the first flashback about Lloyd Bridges' character delivering something to a man. He finds out what it is and the man tries to kill him. So Bridge's character decides to go to America. But the boat starts to leave without him, and he is forced to swim to catch it. I wont tell you what happens. Anyway, there were many other good parts. There were a lot of good jokes. And 'Mafia!' made me laugh. It takes a lot to make me laugh. I've seen about 100 movies, and only 'Space Jam', 'Men In Black', 'Jack', 'There's Somthing About Mary', and 'Mafia!' made me laugh. So see the movie. Don't rush out to see it, but if you feel like going to see a movie and there's nothing else you want to see, check out 'Mafia!'.

What hasn’t been parodied by the "Airplane" crew yet? Here’s an untapped idea that has some funny gags but not enough. Much of it seems forced and tired. And Jay Mohr and Christina Applegate aren’t exactly A-List starring role selections. But I did like the story format bouncing throughout time. I also liked the parody of casino games, where tables such as Candy Land, War, and 52 Card Pick Up lined the floors. And I awarded an extra point (see rating below) for the closing credits. Anyone who doesn’t know to stay around for an ENTIRE Jim Abrahams movie hasn’t been paying any attention.

10-point scale rating: 5

\"Mafia!\" is a comic take off of the Godfather and gangster movies. There is some laughs in this movie, but more are needed to recommend. the scene at the end when a eskimo stuck that spear into a barney look-alike, I nearly recommend that movie on that scene alone.
