This genre of film, light/happy, is not normally what I like. But this one is a winner! There has to be something very wrong if you don't leave the theater REALLY happy! You feel good, have hope. Minnie Driver can emote any nuance of feeling and expression. Plus she charms the pants off you a la Sandra Bullock. What a smile! David Duchovny normally doesn't smile and look good and make you like him. He does here. He normally doesn't have nice clothes and is shown in bright light like he is in this film. Carrol O'Connor, of course, is the master - even if he does have a phony Italian accent that needed some work in this film. He has a delightful bevy of old cronnies at this Irish-Italian restaurant in Chicago who keep you smiling and intrigued. Even though it's not an integral part of the film, I really enjoyed a brief scene at the end with some Italian nuns. What cutters! Apr 10, 2000
This is a GREAT movie , intertaining, funny, and a wonderful way to spend a evening. It is about time that the industry has a movie that it just that much fun to see and leave with a good feeling. Not wondering what was it all about, what did he say ? didnt know they could do that etc. It was a pleasure to spend the money to see! Apr 11, 2000
"Return To Me" is one of the best movies I have seen in a loooooooooooong time. The actors/actresses were all really good. This movie was funny, and sad, but not at the same time. At times I would laugh, at other times I would cry. I wouldn't call this movie a comedy, or a tragedy, because it's got both in it. The whole plot line was really good, and it wasn't one of those "chick flicks" either; guys, you'll like it too! The only thing is, I don't think that it should have been rated PG. There was some bad language in it, and the whole concept is a little too much, and maybe too sad, for younger viewers to understand. I wouldn't take young children to it, even though it is rated PG, the plot might lose them 15 minutes into the movie. It probably should have been PG-13, in my opinion. But to sum it all up, You have to go see this movie, if you don't, you're missing out on a lot! :) Apr 21, 2000
I wanted to see the movie because I live in Chicago where it was filmed, and I am a fan of David Duchovny from the "X-files". David Duchnovy, who generally is a kind of dead-pan, one-liner FBI agent on TV, brought this to the screen. However, it gave him the quality of being just an ordinary guy which was convincing. The supporting cast was good, typical neighborhood friends who know one another's business. I can't say that it was award-winning, but a good, humourous film minus the sex scenes, swearing and violence often seen today. I can describe it as charming and bitter-sweet. This is the kind of film that can be viewed by most audiences over the age of 12. May 20, 2000
Touching, funny movie. Sometimes seemed more drawn out than necessary. I really liked the characters played by Carroll O'Connor and Robert Loggia & friend. They added a special charm and depth to the relationships in the movie. Jul 23, 2000
First time director/writer, Bonnie Hunt has taken a weak story line and a transparent plot and, with attention grabbing characterization, strong, believable dialog and superb comedic timing, turned what might have been the years worst sleeper into an interesting feel good chick flick. And since there is the hint of construction, tools and machinery in the background, the guys and some of you macho type women may enjoy it, too. The story line is, at best, unlikely: An organ donor wife dies in an accident. Her heart is transplanted into the chest of another young woman. She meets the widowed husband of the heart donor wife. They fall in love. Yes, we have touching. Yes, we have heart warming. Yes, we have a hankie. Despite wet napkins and soggy popcorn, the movie held together well. The supporting cast was charming and believable, even if the story line was a little hard to swallow. Hell, I feel Im related to some of them. From lovable old Grampa (Caroll OConner) and his entourage of geriatric cheerleaders to the antagonistic husband of a friend (Jim Belishi) and his loud, uncontrollable children, these charismatic characters evoke visions of home and family. David Ducovny and Minnie Driver - eye candy for the hopelessly romantic - delivered the goods. They not only kept me interested in the movie, but actually drew me in at times. I give this film a solid B, and while I wouldnt go see it on the Big Screen again, I would pony up a couple of bucks when it hits the video shelves. - Don Dixie: I loved it. I laughed so hard I cried. Then I cried so hard I laughed. I shed so many tears, I needed a saline drip. Everyone did a wonderful job. It was great to see Jim Belushi, Caroll OConner and Robert Loggia again. And who cares about plot and story line when you get to look at David Ducovny for 116 minutes. Nice work, Bonnie. I gave it a B+. Jul 30, 2000
Refreshing, refreshing & yes, refreshing. This is a film from the past. I would recommend it to those 30 & over, or anyone who is of a mature nature. It bespeaks of tried and traditional values. Hollywood would do well to follow this format. I am my wife are in our fifties. Please let me know of other films of thid nature that are being produced. It was the best hour and 50 minutes I have spent in a theatre in a long, long time. Aug 14, 2000
Fun Fun Fun! Great acting, great storyline, great attention getter with a romantic twist. You are in there hoping for a happy ending for everyone but hesitant to feel its going to happen for everyone. I will see again AND will buy the video. Sep 16, 2003
\"Return to Me,\" is a fine roamtic comedy about a widower, played by David Duchovey for falls for a woman played by Minnie Driver, who dosn\'t know that his late wife\'s heart is beating inside of Driver. The film is directed by Bonnie Hunt and she\'s a very smart director. Looking for more opinions?Check out our Featured Movie Reviews for Return to Me. |
