This movie is fun to watch. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker comedic sense play well off of each other. Chris Tucker plays a LAPD detective who doesn't like to follow the rules. While this is not exactly an original concept it does serve to show the diversity between him and the Hong Kong Inspector that come to America to help rescue the daughter of a Hong Kong diplomat who has been kidnapped by a Hong Kong crime boss. If you like Jackie Chan movies this is the one to see. It is much better than Van Damme's "Knock Off" in any respect.

What an enjoyable movie!!! It was funny and exciting. Chan and Tucker were the best duo we've seen in a long time. We're waiting for the sequel. (Two thumbs up!)

I believe this movie has it all, humor, suspense, action, and of course, lots of butt kicking Martial Arts. This couldn't have been a better Chan movie. Avoid what paid critics say. They got paid for saying Titanic was the best movie of the year. This movie has it ALL. Take it from a Martial artist, and Jackie Chan fan!!

I thought it was a great movie if you like comedy and action. But unlike some action movies this one had a great plot! The combination of Chris and Jackie was a great one and i cant wait for this to come out on video!! I am a huge fan of both of them!!! Thanks!

Chris Tucker is the new Eddie Murphy. Plain and simple. In the wonderful new film "Rush Hour", he plays Carter, a LA cop with a big mouth and a lot of attitude, who busts up crime with power and panache, never mind that he can mess up half a city block doing it.

In a hilarious opening sequence, Carter (undercover) is negotiating with a bomb salesman (Chris Penn) who is selling C4. After a run in with uniformed cops, the salesman escapes. Carter starts shooting at the car, and as the salesman jumps out, Carter makes one final shot at the car, exploding all the C4. Happy, Carter does a surprising victory dance, which comes out of nowhere. This is just the first scene that shows the mad comic genius of Tucker.

The main story: The daughter of the Honk Kong consolate has been kidnapped. This may stir up an international incident, so the consolate arranges to have a Hong Kong expert policeman and an LAPD cop join forces to find the girl, to keep each other out of the way. The LAPD is reluctant to this, so they send in Carter, the mouthy detective to meet Lee, the HKPD cop. None other than Martial Arts and stunt man whiz Jackie Chan, who has never looked better, plays the cop.

Now when the two of these wonders of comedy appear on screen together, it's almost a great cinematic moment. Here is Tucker, a celebrated comedian with a high squealy voice, and Chan, a celebrated action star who always does his own stunts. Neither of them want a partner, they both work alone. While some may think that Chan is taking the backseat to let Tucker make his starring debut, the two work so well together in a great action film.

Jackie Chan works well in this film because his Lee has come to America for the first time, which means he has to fit into the culture. Which doesn't help when Carter takes him to Mann's Chinese Village, or offers to buy him a cup of noodles. Chan is still as electrifying and as fast as ever. One of the film's hilarious moments occurs inside a black bar, where Lee tries to fit in. Chris Tucker works so well in this film because his Carter is a motor-mouth who loves to get into sticky situations and doesn't want a partner. He effectively takes over each and every scene with strength and humour. He is definitely going places.

But he doesn't make Chan any smaller in this film, surprisingly. Its just a wonderful cross of "Beverly Hills Cop" with "Supercop", all wound into a sensational 94 minute action film. Its one of the best films of the year, because it is just so much fun. It feels great to walk out of the cinema with a big smile on your face.

Tech Review:

Picture: 2.5 A bad picture with a lot of flash marks appearing at the bottom of the screen, with some really fine grain and natural dirt.

Sound: 4.5 The SDDS soundtrack is explosive with lots of good surrounds and powerful bass. Watch for the exploding building. Dialogue is clear, and this time there is no cheap dubbing.

Photography: 5 The Panavision scope photography is great, and it will sorely be killed on a pan and scan video transfer. Director Brett Ratner uses the frame well for a good composition.

The movie script is a little predictable however Chris Tucker is out of control and delivers a hilarious performance. Jackie Chan martial arts skills are second to none, plus the fact he does his own stunts. the man english skills are improving by leaps and bounds more so than most americans cantonese or mandarin. with thatI give the guy a pass. Now for the crux of the movie bad guys kidnap little girl of Chinese atache. Jackie Chan trusted confidant of diplomat must come to America to help, Chris Tucker must escort Chan while on loan from L.A.P.D. via F.B.I you and your buds could write the rest. Hovever it's entertainment and just remember it only a movie and its goal is to entertain you and it succeeds at doing just that.

The name of this movie speaks for itself. Rush Hour is definately a rush. Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker join up in the latest of Jackie Chan movies. The story line is relatively simple - Jackie and Chris team up in attempt to rescue the Chinese Consulate's daughter from gangsters. Tucker is reluctant at first to take on a partner, however once the FBI become involved, he has little choice. My review is unusually short however, all I can say for this movie is to go see it NOW before it get's out of the theaters.

I realize that the Jackie Chan action in this movie isn't as intense as many of his other movies but then again, the plots of his other movies aren't as well done as this one (though many of his films have great plots), so it's a fair trade. The action is still Jackie's own and completely enthralling. I really liked Chris Tucker, even though I wasn't sure I would because of The Fifth Element. The location is nice, even though we know L.A. so well, it doesn't seem worn. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are a good contrast to each other. They bring out the good qualities that each other has. And the funky duet was nice too.

This is totally biased because I'm a Jackie Chan fan. But I don't like Chris Tucker. Thing is, you can't really tell whose movie it really is. Either way--be it a martial arts flick or a comedy--it works on both levels.

Jackie performs some dynamite fight set pieces and Chris Tucker does a good job mouthing his way throught the movie. I find Tucker grating most of the time, but he is tempered this time for a mass market and it works.

Don't just sit there. Go see this movie!

First of all....I liked it. This is classic Jackie Chan. The funniest thing about this film is that Jackie Chan continues to make fun out of this type of action film, but this time he has some help in the form of Chris Tucker. Chan is a Hong Kong Detective who is called to Los Angeles to help solve the kidnapping of the Chinese Consul's daughter. The FBI recruits a LAPD Detective (Chris Tucker) to babysit the visiting Chan. Tucker is arrogant and self-centered, while Chan is funny and independent. Putting these two together makes for a perfect 90 minutes of laughter. If you ahve never seen a Chan film, then this one will enlighten you to his style of humor and action. But remember, you must always stay through the credits to see all the out-takes....for Chan always does his own stunts and it's humorous to see him get banged around. Bottom line...if you ever get kidnapped, just hope someone like Chan is searching for you because if you are waiting for Chris to find you, you may end up "Tuckering" out first.

Good casting. OK writing. Way better than Lethal Weapon 4.

Rush Hour (1998)

The funniest moments in Jackie Chan's American movie Rush Hour happen when cultures clash.

There's a scene in which impetuous Detective Carter (Chris Tucker) points his pistol at wise Hong Kong Inspector Lee (Chan). Watching the gun-happy could-be crooks, a cabbie pulls out a gun of his own and makes them freeze.

There's Lee's conflict with FBI agents, who get Carter assigned to actually keep Lee off the case. The premise of the film, of course, relies on the failure of Carter's baby-sitting; the action becomes hilarious when Lee gets away from Carter and outwits a houseful of federal agents.

Finally, there's the running joke of the Chinese detective who is repeatedly confused by African-American culture. The audience gets many chuckles from the initial tension between the two cops. Whatever egotistic ruse Carter tries out, Lee thwarts or shames or betters him. Chan is at his best when his comic skills run on naiveté; it's even better when his innocence gets him into big trouble, as it does in a pool hall. Oh, how quickly Chan charms us with humor and veers into well-choreographed violence!

The reason Inspector Lee visits the States is to assist in a kidnapping case: the daughter of the Chinese Consul Han (Tzi Ma) has been taken. What's moving is that Lee takes the crime somewhat personally; he's like an uncle to her, good-naturedly taking punches from the girl as she departs China. It is Lee's connection as strong family friend that motivates his relentless battling of kidnappers as well as other officers.

Tom Wilkinson does a passable job in his role, though his character could have been made more round. As the evil Sang, Ken Leung combines the right amount of sour stares and shakiness; he's also a horrible shot with a machine pistol. It's unclear why Elizabeth Pena appears as a partner - and sometime foil - to Tucker's loud-mouthed Carter. She is always likable, but here fails to convince us she is a demolitions expert.

Jackie Chan's closing credits usually show out-takes from the shooting. Once again we get an idea about how rigorously the cast worked to produce the slick and athletic mayhem that is a trademark of Jackie Chan. How many takes were needed to produce the fight in the Chinese restaurant? In the abandoned building? Did Jackie break or sprain anything during the shoot, we wonder?

Originality is the key element in these slugfest sagas; let's face it, plots in Chan films can be found in Kojak or Beretta episodes. But director Brett Ratner has created a film with smooth transitions and spots of characterization that actually make us care about Lee and Carter and some of the people they work with. In seeing Rush Hour, what gave me my money's worth? First, my son and I had the theater to ourselves. OK, it was a small auditorium, but still it was like viewing a video on an extra large private screen. Bottom line, I laughed out loud at Jackie's over-the-top stunts and martial arts gimmicks. The man knows the power of exaggeration, and he knows that the audience is smart enough not to take him too seriously.

This movie was very funny and entertaining. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker make a great team. If you have a good sense of humor you will enjoy this one.

My name is Chris. I'm writing a review on Rush Hour. It's a very funny movie. If you like movies with laughter, shotting ,things getting blown up you got to see Rush Hour. With Chris Rock and Jackie Chan. I would say Chris Rock did most of the funny and Jackie Chan did most of kicking and punching. It's about a man who gets her little dauter kiddnapped by some chinese gut with white hair. Luckilly, Jackie Chan works for the man who got her dauter stolen. Chris Rock is a N.Y.P.D that helps Jackie Chan. It's a action, shootin, and it's hilarious. It's a movie you got to see. I'll give it 4 stars!

Pretty good. A lot of funny moments. Good martial arts---of course. Chris Tucher add a lot of life to this movie. Minimal bad language. Rarely gory. almost PG.

Jackie Chan is as great and entertaining as always. Chris Tucker, on the other hand looks like he is trying to be a wannabe Eddie Murphy - and he fails terribly. Not only is he unfunny, but he can't act. But, see the movie because it's fun with explosions, death defying stunts, car chases and lots of ammo.

Although it is a decent movie, it a bad story and it just isn't funny. Wait and rent it.That would probably be the better choice.

OK, this movie is mindless action, blah, blah. But it's GOOD mindless action. Directed by Brett Ratner (never heard of this guy), Rush Hour is a great ride while you're in the theater. It's completely forgettable afterwards, of course, but lots of fun while you're watching.

The plot: Well, it's kind of pointless to talk about this, but here it goes. Jackie Chan plays Inspector Lee, a Hong Kong detective who is a good friend of the Consul in Hong Kong. After the Consul moves to Los Angeles, drug smugglers that he and Lee had previously foiled kidnap his daughter as revenge. Not trusting the FBI, the Consul asks Lee to fly to the U. S. to help with the investigation. The FBI, however, does not want Lee's help, and they enlist the LAPD to "babysit" him for awhile. The LAPD finds a loudmouth narcotics cop (Chris Tucker) for the job, glad to be rid of him.

As you may have guessed, the plot is just a backdrop for the martial arts and other action scenes in this film. The action scenes ARE spectacular. Chan continues to amaze with his unsurpassed athleticism, and Tucker does not seem entirely out of place amidst the flying bodies. He actually blends in quite well with the action. I wonder how many times they have to shoot these scenes?

The real reason to see this movie, though, is the chemistry between Chan and Tucker. Jackie has always had charisma that tended to shine through weak material, and it shows again in this film. Tucker remains on the verge of becoming annoying, but never actually gets there. I didn't find him annoying in this film at all. He is definitely a young comic talent with the potential to become another Eddie Murphy. Chan and Tucker, though an unlikely pair, banter surprisingly well in this movie. Chan, with his understated thoughtfulness, and Tucker, with his motormouth style, yapping on and on about something or other, contrast well and provide plenty of laughs, mostly milked from the tried-and-true "buddy cop" formula. Rush Hour also manages to prevent resorting to the Asian stereotype jokes that are all too common in films of this nature. One highlight: Jackie and Chris singing and dancing along to the soul anthem "War (What Is It Good For?)." That alone made my day.

IT's about a LA PD cop that has a special assignment which his assimenent is like baby sittingThe person he is like babysiting for is someone that is suppose to be on the case. The case is a kidnapping.

This is the best movie I have seen for some time, the hottest action movie, great actiongreat plot, what else do you want. Also includes the best asian action "King" of movies.

A Ok action picture which teams Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in a action adventure set in America. I enjoy the chemistry between the two as well as the action sequence. Not much of a movie but I still recommend the film.
